Let's Try This Again

I tried this post last night, but something froze my computer and I lost what I had written. I don't know if that was exactly tragic, but it pissed me off to no end.

Anyway, the trailer for Terry Gilliam's latest film The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is finally on line. The visuals are astounding and while I'm still not sold on the premise, I like what I see. I've been a Gilliam fan since his Python days, and even love his most reviled film, Tideland. While many saw it as an exploitative treatise on pedophilia and child-neglect, I saw it as the triumph of a child's imagination in the face of indescribable hardship. Tideland features a remarkable performance from young Jodelle Ferland (Silent Hill and the upcoming Case 39) as well as terrific supporting roles featuring Janet McTeer, Brendan Fletcher, Jeff Bridges and Jennifer Tilly.

Still, even a genius has an occasional brain-fart. Case-in-point: the unremarkable and studio-tampered The Brothers Grimm.

But, all that aside, the trailer for Parnassus looks like a typical Gilliam visual treat. Enjoy:

Of course, we all know about the tragic death of Heath Ledger, but his role was fluid enough to allow Gilliam to replace him with three of his contemporaries: Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell; three hotties that make the girls and boys all hot and bothered. I, for one, can't wait to see this movie.

More, anon.

Something is wrong with your blog...take a look. Last night it would only show your post, the rest was blank. I hope it's just me but thought I'd let you know.
