Lots to talk about tonight. I suppose in an effort to distract myself, I did a lot of surfing today and found plenty of things I wanted to post. So let's get started, shall we?
First, back to basics: Horror movies!
Diablo Cody (writer of the insufferably overrated Juno) is back with a nasty little picture which I might actually enjoy, Jennifer's Body. Jennifer (Transformers' str8 eye-candy Megan Fox) stars in the title role as a cheerleader possessed by a demon that likes to feast on human flesh. Human boy flesh, that is. Also on hand is "Big Love's" Amanda Seyfried as Jennifer's best friend, Needy (that's a name?); Hotel For Dogs' Johhny Simmons; Adam Brody of "The O.C." (a show which I am proud to say I have never seen) and one of my favorite character actors, J.K. Simmons of the Spiderman films, "Law and Order" and "The Closer."
The good folks over at ShockTillYouDrop have posted the Red Band trailer, which I have embedded below. It may be NSFW, depending on where you work.
Next, some interesting news about a celebrity's death other than Michael Jackson. Shi Pei Pu, the Chinese opera star who inspired David Henry Hwang's 1988 Tony Award-winning play 'M. Butterfly," has died in Paris at 70. Outrate has the full story, along with photos of Shi and the real French diplomat he tricked into believing he was a woman (and consequently spying for the Chinese government). Below is a scene from the 1988 Tony Awards show:
The play started the career of another "Law and Order" alum, B.D. Wong. I always thought Hwang tried too hard to emulate the structure of Peter Shaffer's "Equus," but would love a chance to play Gallimard, Hwang's fictional version of the diplomat.
And finally, while I thought the parodies of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" were a thing of the past, via my friend Jonathan comes this hilarious new version by The Dan Band. It may well be The Straightest Thing You'll See This Week (on this blog, anyway). Enjoy:
Okay, I'm done (for now).
More, anon.

I'm not a fan of the scary movie - - scary movies scare me - - but I think I'm going to have to see JENNIFER'S BODY. In a bad way.
