Where Will I Find the Time?

So many movies, so little time! August has proven to hold the most movies on my "Must See" list all summer, and I have no idea how I'm going to get to them all.

This Friday brings us Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a franchise reboot starring James Franco; John Lithgow; Freida Pinto; Tyler Labine; Brian Cox (the original Hannibal Lecter); Tom Felton (in his first non Harry Potter role) and Andy Serkis in yet another motion-capture role as the chimpanzee, Caesar. 

The story revolves around Franco's Will Rodman, a scientist trying to find a cure for Alzheimer's, a disease afflicting his father, Charles (Lithgow). Testing an experimental drug on a chimpanzee, Rodman thinks he has found a cure. But Caesar's intelligence accelerates beyond expectations and when he is forcibly removed from the only family he knows, he plots his escape and revenge, resulting in an intelligent ape revolution.

I was not particularly excited to see this movie until D and I saw the latest trailer ahead of Captain America last week. But both of us are at least interested, if not exactly excited.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes opens on August 5th.

Jumping ahead to August 19th and you'll find three movies on my radar. First up, the remake of Fright Night, starring Colin Farrell (YUM!); Anton Yelchin; Toni Collete and Christoper Mintz-Plasse. I've talked about this movie several times already, but I am very excited to see how director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) updates the story of a young man who believes a vampire has moved in next door. 

Also opening on the 19th is another remake; Conan the Barbarian. The original 80's version starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Earl Jones and Max von Sydow in an ultra-violent (and ultra-cheesy) version of the Robert E. Howard novels about an ancient civilization ruled by fear and terror. The new version, directed by Marcus Nispel (the appallingly bad update of Friday the 13th) stars "Game of Thrones" Hawaiian  slab-o-beef Jason Mamoa; Ron Perlman (Hellboy); Rose McGowan (Planet Terror) and Stephen Lang (Avatar) in a movie that is supposed to be closer to the source material than the 1982 film.

Last, but not least on the 19th in limited release is Griff the Invisible, with Dead Silence and "True Blood" hottie Ryan Kwanten as an office worker who imagines himself a superhero and whose life is changed when he meets a beautiful scientist (Maeve Dermody) who shares his dreams.

August 25th is the release date for Guillermo del Toro's remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, a movie that already has D and my sister pooping their pants.

Also on the 25th is Our Idiot Brother, starring the exceptionally sexy and funny Paul Rudd; Elizabeth Banks; Zooey Deschanel and Emily Mortimer. Rudd may play stupid, but he looks as hot as ever.
